Standard Library

The language will provide a consistent, safety-oriented standard library.

1. Core Utilities

  • String manipulation.
  • Mathematical operations.
  • Numeric conversions.
  • Date and time handling.
  • Collection operations.
  • Data formatting.

2. Data Handling

  • JSON parsing and serialization.
  • Structured data validation.
  • File reading and writing.
  • Data transformation.
  • Encoding and decoding.

3. Input and Output

  • Console input and output.
  • File system operations.
  • Stream processing.
  • Structured logging.

4. Networking

  • HTTP requests.
  • Secure connections.
  • Request and response handling.
  • Timeout and cancellation support.
  • Explicit network permissions.

5. Concurrency

  • Task creation and management.
  • Asynchronous operations.
  • Synchronization primitives.
  • Channels and message passing.

6. Security

  • Cryptographic primitives.
  • Secure random number generation.
  • Hashing.
  • Authentication interfaces.
  • Secure secret handling.

7. Database Support

  • Database connection interfaces.
  • Parameterized queries.
  • Transaction management.
  • Explicit transaction boundaries.

8. Standard Library Rules

  • All standard library functions must have documented contracts.
  • External effects must be declared.
  • Failure conditions must be explicit.
  • Safety guarantees must be verifiable.
  • APIs must use consistent naming and conventions.
  • Standard library behavior must be versioned and documented.

Design Goal

Provide AI agents with dependable, standardized building blocks that reduce the need to generate repetitive low-level code or introduce unnecessary dependencies.

Source and authority

This page migrates STDLBRY.md in full. It is an explanatory / implementation document, not the normative specification. Where it simplifies a rule, the Technical Specification governs. The original file is preserved in source-original/LANG/.
