Initial Compilation Target¶
1. First Target: Python¶
The initial compiler will translate our language into Python code.
Python is selected because: - It allows us to prototype without building a machine-code backend. - It has mature libraries and tooling. - It supports rapid development and testing. - It allows us to focus on language design and verification first.
2. Language Independence¶
- Python syntax must not define our language's syntax.
- Python behavior must not define our language's semantics.
- All language rules must be enforced before code generation.
- Generated Python must preserve the intended behavior of the original program.
- AI agents should work with our language, not write Python directly as a substitute.
3. Future Compilation Targets¶
The architecture should eventually support additional targets, potentially including: - Native machine code. - WebAssembly. - Other managed runtime environments.
These targets should not require changing the language's fundamental rules.
4. Prototype Objective¶
Demonstrate that our language can reject invalid programs, verify declared requirements, and generate executable software.
Design Goal¶
Build and validate the language's reliability mechanisms before investing in native machine-code generation.
Source and authority¶
This page migrates PYTHON.md in full. It is an explanatory / implementation document, not the normative specification. Where it simplifies a rule, the Technical Specification governs. The original file is preserved in source-original/LANG/.
